Family Camps.....

Family camps help to buid confidence and self-esteem, offer opportunities to develop important skills such as problem solving and communication, and provide a safe place for growth free from judgement and bullying they are often victims of.

Camp is also a time where important relationships are formed that help to open doors, enabling further connections to be made such as on-going youth programmes and the offer of support such as counselling and tutoring where a need is identified.

The camps have a huge impact on the lives of both our Angels and their volunteer leaders - and of course they are FUN.

A Caregivers Experience of Family Camp

A caregiver who has been involved with Angel Tree Christmas for a number of years recently came to a Family Camp.

As part of the workshop offered at the camp, caregivers were invited to set a personal goal of something they would like to achieve. This caregiver’s goal was to complete tertiary training in the health field. As a young person, they had wanted to be a nurse, but circumstances did not allow this at the time.

After camp, the caregiver enrolled in a Foundation Course to brush up on study skills. She was encouraged when, after initial assessments, the tutor commended her both on her skills in English and mathematics. The tutor suggested that she was capable of studying at Level 6. The caregiver was able to extend her skills in the Foundation Course when the tutor provided her with material at the right level.

The caregiver is currently enrolled in a Level 2 course, a prerequisite for her chosen Level 4 course and is thoroughly enjoying studying and finding she can fit her work and home commitments around the study. She is taking advantage of extra opportunities and attending additional lectures in a similar field to extend her learning.

Angel Tree Family Care is working with the caregiver to investigate ways to fund her chosen Level 4 course.

Success! Message received.
